The Faculty of Agriculture at Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU) stands at the forefront of agricultural education in Telangana. The academic programs are so formulated to enable empowerment of the next generation of agricultural professionals who will shape the future of sustainable farming and rural development. The programs emphasize a balanced approach combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on field experience, supported by modern laboratories, research stations, and fully equipped instructional farms. The curriculum is designed to address regional and global challenges in agriculture, including crop improvement, plant protection, climate-resilient farming, soil health, water management and agri-entrepreneurship.

The B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture is a four year professional undergraduate degree program blending core agricultural sciences with emerging technologies and practical field applications. The students are introduced to various courses under each department gradually progressing from learning fundamentals to applied sciences and modern technologies. The V Deans curriculum incorporates all the courses during the first three years of degree program while the fourth year includes Student READY programs. The VI Deans curriculum was adopted from the academic year 2024-25 onwards and it includes online courses as well. Here, both elective courses and Student READY programs will be dealt during the fourth year of degree programme. The VI Deans curriculum includes Deeksharambh (Induction-cum-Foundation course), skill enhancement courses, multidisciplinary courses, value added courses, ability enhancement courses in addition to the core courses.
The student READY (Rural Entrepreneurship Awareness Development Yojana) program in the curriculum of the UG programme in faculty of Agriculture is an essential prerequisite for the award of degree to ensure hands on experience and practical training to students. The programme aims to reorient graduates of agriculture and allied subjects for ensuring and assuring employability and develop entrepreneurs for emerging knowledge intensive agriculture. Student READY programme was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 25th July, 2015.
All the below mentioned components of the student READY programme are interactive and are conceptualized for building skills in project development and execution, decision-making, individual and team coordination, approach to problem solving, accounting, quality control, marketing and resolving conflicts, etc. with end to end approach
The 7th semester comprises of two components i.e., RAWEP for 4 months with 0+18 credits and AIA for 2 months with 0+2 credits. During the final 8th semester, AELP shall be taken up for a duration of 5 months with 0+20 credits.
During the 8th semester, RAWEP for 16 weeks and AIA for 4 weeks shall be completed with 0+20 credits.
The Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme (RAWEP) helps the students primarily to understand the rural situations, status of agricultural technologies adopted by farmers, prioritize the farmers’ problems, prepare farm and village development plans and to develop skills and attitude of working with farm families for overall development in rural area. Technology and globalization are ushering an era of unprecedented change. The need and pressure for change and innovation is immense. To enrich the practical knowledge of the students, in-plant training shall be mandatory in the final year. In this training, students will have to study a problem in industrial perspective and submit the reports to the university. Such in-plant trainings will provide an industrial exposure to the students as well as to develop their career in the high tech industrial requirements. In-Plant training is meant to correlate theory and actual practices in the industries with the following objectives:
Agricultural Experiential Learning Programme (AELP) helps the student to develop competence, capability, capacity building, acquiring skills, expertise, and confidence to start their own enterprise and turn job creators instead of job seekers. This is a step forward for “Earn while you Learn” concept. Experiential Learning is an important module for high quality professional competence and practical work experience in real life situation to Graduates. The module with entrepreneurial orientation of production and production to consumption pattern is expected to facilitate producing Job Providers rather than Job Seekers.
