Today, on 5th, December, 2025, on the occasion of World Soil Day (WSD), a awareness program was organised by Telangana Rythu Vigyan Kendra, Warangal, in collaboration with the Agriculture Department at Pedda Pendyala village of Dharmasagar Mandal in Hanmakonda District. Speaking on the program, Dr A. Vijaya Bhaskar, Coordinator and Senior Scientist, Telangana Rythu Vigyan Kendra, Warangal, explained this year's theme "Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities" through a "Power Point Presentation". He said that we always think of cities as houses, buildings and roads, but let us not forget that the soil beneath them is the foundation of the health of our villages and cities. He said that these soils absorb rainwater, keep our cities cool, absorb carbon and protect the atmosphere. Also, in this program, a training program was organised for farmers on collecting soil samples for soil testing, pest infestations and nutrient deficiencies management in various crops. In this training, farmers were asked to use fertilizers and pesticides as recommended for the crop and protect the microorganisms in the soil and earthworms. Similarly, farmers were advised to incorporate crop residues into the soil and apply single superphosphate to accelerate decomposition, rather than burning crop waste. They were also advised to sow rice nurseries by December 20th. Every farmer and every citizen should take a "pledge" to play their part in conserving soils and pass it on to future generations. Scientists Dr B. Venkata Rajkumar, Dr R. Vishwatej, along with Mr Rajesh (Dharmasagar, Mandal Agricultural Officer), Agricultural Extension Officer Mr Pawan Kalyan and progressive farmers, participated in this programme.
