World Soil Day-2025 Celebrations at Agricultural College, Adilabad on 05.12.2025

The World Soil Day 2025 was celebrated jointly by Agricultural College, Agricultural Research Station, Adilabad and Centre for People Forestry (CPF) NGO, Adilabad at 2nd year classroom of Agricultural College on 05.12.2025. The programme was anchored by 2nd year student Ms. Arshini who has welcomed the dignitaries on to the dias. The session was inaugurated by dedicating a group song on ‘Save Soils’ by 2nd year students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Ag. The introductory remarks on world soil day was given by Dr. G. Manjulatha, Professor (Agronomy) & OISA, Agril College, Adilabad. She highlighted about this year FAO theme on soils that “Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities” and reiterated the soils play critical role as the foundation for life, supporting food security, biodiversity and climate regulation. Dr. K. Rajashekar, Professor (Ento.), ARS, Adilabad in his address said that every year 5th December marks world soil day, a global initiative by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to shed light on the importance of soil. Sri Sudharsha, a representative of Centre for People Forestry (CPF) NGO, explained about their project initiatives for sustainability. Dr. Sreedhar Chauhan, Principal Scientist & Head, ARS, Adilabad addressed about the programme that soil is a complex ecosystem providing 95% of our food filtering out water, storing carbon and regulating our climate. Dr. Y. Praveen Kumar, Associate Dean, Agril. College, Adilabad addressing the gathering stated that soils, the invaluable resources are facing severe threats from unsustainable farming, deforestation and urbanization making soil conservation, a critical global challenge. Later there was interaction programme between the scientists, Farmers and NGO group farmers. The student Ms. Shradha of II year B.Sc (Hons.) Ag. Spoke on importance on soil conservation. All the Teaching faculty Dr. G. Anitha, Assoc. Professor (Ento.), Dr. Kasbe Sudhanshu S, Asst. Professor (Agro.), Dr. D. Kumara Swamy, Asst. Professor (AECO), G. Anil Kumar, Asst. Professor (GPBR), Non-Teaching faculty and supporting staff of Ag. College, Adilabad and Dr. D. Mohan Das, Scientist, ARS, Adilabad CPF NGO representative Sri. Sudharshan and students of B.Sc (Hons.) Ag. II year participated in the programme. The programme ended with vote of thanks.
