On 05.06.2025, World Environment Day was celebrated at Agriculture College, Aswaraopet, in a befitting manner. For this program, Dr. B. Vijay Kumar RMO of regional Community Health Center, Aswaraopet, was invited as chief guest. This program was organized under the headship of the Associate Dean Dr. J. Hemantha Kumar, NSS units and all the clubs faculty and student facilitators have participated actively in this program. The theme of World Environment Day 2025 is Beat the Plastic Pollution was discussed among the students, The Associate Dean Dr. J. Hemantha Kumar enlightened the students and faculty on the ways to curb the plastic pollution further guided the students to follow eco- friendly ways of using environmental friendly material like paper bags, jute bags, eradicating one time usable plastic, carrying the bag while shopping, etc further stressed on the significance of reducing plastic in agriculture to improve the soil fertility, conservation of soil water, rain water collection, etc. Dr Vijayakumar Garu delivered a speech on the impacts of plastic material on imposing various health hazards and suggested many ideas on reducing the usage of plastic in day-to-day life. Many students and staff expressed their ideas to reduce the usage of plastic. In view of this program, various events viz., Cartooning, Poster Making, Essay Writing, Elocution, etc., were conducted on the theme of #beat the plastic pollution. Winners were awarded with certificates and prizes. In this program, mangoes were distributed as refreshments to pave a path towards a healthy lifestyle. Dr. Naganjali, Assistant Professor, emphasized on the impact of climate change on agricultural crop production and discussed various strategies to minimize climate related risks and enhance crop productivity. She also highlighted advanced technologies available for different crops especially in rice and cotton that help to reduce climate risks. On the occasion Dr. Neelima, Assistant Professor, explained the impact of climate change on horticultural crops and provided a brief account of the major climatic issues affecting key horticultural crops grown in the region. Dr. Madhusudhan Reddy, OSA, urged students to regularly participate in games and sports to build resilience against climate challenges. He also emphasized that maintaining a healthy diet can help to reduce the impact of climate change on human health. Finally, at the end of the World Environment Day celebrations, the staff and students took a pledge to reduce the use of plastics and promote sustainable alternatives.
