TRVK, Siddipet & Maize Research Centre, Hyderabad Scientists visit to Maize fields at Machapur (V), Chinnakodur (M), Thoguta (V & M) & Erravelli (V), Markook (M) along with Agriculture department officials. The crops are at silking to cob formation stage. Observed Banded leaf & sheath blight (BLSB) in maize field. Symptoms include water-soaked, concentric brown or tan bands on leaves and sheaths, often starting on lower parts of the plant, and a cottony fungal growth with small black specks. High humidity and warm temperatures favor the disease, which can also infect ears, causing significant yield losses, with 50-100% reduction. Dr. Ch. Pallavi, Scientist (CP), TRVK, Tornala, Siddipet, Dr. B. Mallaiah, Senior Scientist, Dr. D. Sravani and Dr. Ch, Anusha, MRC, Rajendranagar Scientists have explained in detail the symptoms of wilt & Banded leaf & sheath blight (BLSB) and recommended suggested to spray with Propiconozole 1 ml/lt or Hexaconozole 2 ml/lt or validamycin 2 ml/lt along with application of MOP @ 45 kg per acre basal and top dress at 55 DAS compulsorily. Wilt symptoms were also observed in two fields of Thoguta and Erravelly. In this visit AEOs Vishnu, Jameel, Devender and 20 farmers were participated.
