A Training programme on “Production technologies of rabi sunflower along with “Field day on rabi Sunflower” was organized at ARS, Tornala on 19-02-2026 by Agricultural Research Station, Tornala. In this programme, Dr. G. Santhosh Kumar, Scientist (Agro.) and Head, ARS, Tornala highlighted on importance of alternate crops to rice during rabi season and their economic viability and importance of oilseeds in crop diversification. Dr. D. Swetha, Scientist (Agro), ARS, Tornala explained about characteristics of sunflower hybrid seed (Tillhan tech SUN H-1) such as duration 90-95 days, with yield potential of 9-11q/ac with oil content of 39-40%. She also enlightened farmers about importance of secondary and micro nutrients in sunflower production, production technologies in sunflower. Dr. A. Ramadevi, Scientist (Ento.), explained about pest and disease management in sunflower. Smt. G. Neelima, Scientist (Pl. Br), encouraged farmers regarding seed production, important aspects of seed production such as time and isolation distance maintenance in sunflower cultivation. Smt. A. Saritha, Scientist (Pl. Br) explained about paddy and pulses seed production Later, farmers have raised problems in cultivation of sunflower and scientists suggested solutions. Further, a field day was organised followed by inputs viz., borax, neem oil, corazen and reflective ribbon were distributed to the sunflower FLDs beneficiaries. The programme was attended by farmers of Mantoor and Anajipur villages.
