KVK, Wyra Celebrated ICAR Foundation Day on 16.07.2025

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an autonomous body responsible for coordinating agricultural education and research in India reporting to the Department of Agricultural Research and Education under Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India. It is the largest network of agricultural research and education institutes in the world. ICAR was formerly known as Imperial Council of Agricultural Research and was established on 16th July 1929 as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The ICAR has its headquarters at New Delhi. ICAR play an important role in strengthening agriculture and farmer welfare in India as it helps to achieve the targets of rural development through enhancing farmers income and self-sustainability of farming community. Being agriculture-centric country, the farmers are considered as the real treasure of the country as 60 to 70% population are still dependent on farming and its related activities for livelihood. ICAR emphasizes agricultural progress in the country through self-dependent in production of food crop varieties and various other essential products. The agriculture related allied sectors like crop science, fisheries, Natural resource management along with farming play a significant role in rural economy. The commendable works carried out in the various fields of agricultural and allied sciences by untiring Agricultural Research, Agricultural Extension Scientists and farmers In this context, KVK, Wyra celebrated the 97rd ICAR Foundation Day in Krishi Vigyan Kendra Wyra. Dr. T. Pavani, Programme Coordinator (i/c), Dr. V. Chaitanya and Mrs. P. S. M. Phanisri and P Saraswathi AO and technical Staff along with 31 farmers has participated in the Programme. Dr. T. Pavani, Programme Coordinator (i/c), explained the history involved in the formation of ICAR, ICAR commitment to serve the farming community through cutting-edge research, innovations, and capacity building. She apprised the concept of Direct seeded paddy cultivation, balanced use of fertilizers, Dr Chaitanya SMS (Horticulture) explained Nursery management in Chilli, IPM technology for Chilli crop, Smt. P.S.M Phanisri addressed entrepreneurship development through value addition and explained the need to think innovatively and diversify their agriculture to improve farm income.
