KVK, Palem conducted a Training on “Nutritional care for the lactating mothers” at Palem village on 05.08.2025.

As part of World Breastfeeding Week (August 1st to 7th), Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Palem organized a training programme on “Nutritional Care for Lactating Mothers.” at Palem (V), Bijinepally (M), Nagrakurnool (D) on 05.08.2025. Dr. P. Sreedevi, Programme Coordinator, interacted with new and lactating mothers, emphasizing the importance and nutritional value of breast milk, highlighted that colostrum—the first milk expressed within 3 hours of delivery—is highly nutritious, immune-boosting, and essential for newborns. Stressed that the first six months are critical, during which exclusive breastfeeding is sufficient to meet the infant’s nutritional needs. However, in cases where mothers experience difficulty lactating, she advised that formula milk may be considered on the recommendation of a paediatrician. Monitoring minimum six pee counts per day, Ensuring the baby burps after every feed, maintaining hygiene to safeguard the health of the newborn is essential. Care of Lactating Mothers: 1. Balanced Nutrition is essential to meet the increased nutritional demands during lactation. 2. Some mothers may experience bone weakness; hence, calcium-rich foods such as milk and eggs should be included in the diet. 3. The diet should also include protein-rich foods like pulses, chicken, along with millets and leafy vegetables to support overall health and milk production. 4. It is important for lactating mothers to stay well-hydrated, manage stress levels, and get adequate rest to ensure both maternal and infant well-being. In this programme Dr. P. Sreedevi, Programme coordinator, Dr. O. Shaila, SMS (Plant protection), V. Pushpalatha, YPI, KVK, Palem, Smt. Vijaya Laxmi, Smt. Razia begum, Anganwadi teachers and 15 mothers, 15 kids a Total of 36 members were participated.
