Awareness programme on soil health card and rain water conservation was conducted at Mallaigdem village on 01-09-2025 by NSS PO’s Mrs. D. Sravanthi and Dr. P. Jhansi Rani under the guidance of Dr. J. Hemantha Kumar (Associate Dean, Agricultural College, Aswaraopet). Dr. M. Ramprasad (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Soil Science) attended as resource person and delivered a lecture on “Importance of soil testing and soil health cards” and explained about how to draw soil sample from agricultural and horticultural crops. Further he added soil test based fertilizer recommendations in various crops. Mrs. D. Sravanthi (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Agronomy) explained about importance of farm ponds, water conservation methods like mulches, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems. Dr. P. Jhansi Rani (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Genetics & Plant Breeding) created awareness regarding pulses varieties and management and other crops suitable for bund cropping and their management. Sri. Shivaramprasad garu, MAO explained about subsidies for farm ponds and advised the farmers for getting soil health cards to utilise various subsidies provide by government. NSS volunteers explained about advantages of soil health cards and vermicompost. Many farmers of Mallaigudem village, Sri. Shakeera Bhanu (AEO), Sri Satish (AEO), Sri. Srikanth (Panchayat secretary), Sri. Chandra Shekar and Sri. Srinivas (NGO) have actively participated in programme by asking few doubts. After that team along with farmers and NSS volunteers visited fields of banana, paddy, black gram, cotton, vegetable nursery and Integrated Farming System, bio char applied cotton fields and observed some pest and diseases. Farmers expressed satisfaction over the programme.
