An awareness camp on the importance of soil testing along with a method demonstration on soil sample collection was conducted in Veeravelly and Kammagudem villages on 12th March 2026 under the Praja Palana activity. The programme was organized to create awareness among farmers about the importance of soil testing, particularly in view of the increasing soil-related problems observed during the Kharif season. During the programme, farmers were educated about the benefits of soil testing in identifying the nutrient status and soil fertility levels, which helps in the scientific and balanced application of fertilizers. It was explained that soil testing not only helps improve crop productivity but also reduces unnecessary input costs and maintains long-term soil health. A practical demonstration on the scientific method of soil sample collection was carried out in farmers’ fields. Farmers were shown how to collect representative soil samples from different spots in the field at the recommended depth, mix them properly to form a composite sample, and label them correctly before sending them for analysis. As part of this activity, soil samples were collected from 30 farmers’ fields in Veeravelly and Kammagudem villages. The programme was conducted with the active involvement of Bhuvanagiri Horticulture FPO Coordinator Mandhadi Siddhareddy and other progressive farmers, RAWEP students and Young Professionals of the cotton project. The collected soil samples will be analyzed with the support of IFFCO, and the results will be communicated to the farmers so that they can adopt appropriate nutrient management practices for better crop production in the ensuing Kharif season. Farmers actively participated in the programme and expressed their interest in regularly testing their soils to overcome soil-related problems and improve crop yields.
