The AICRP on Agroforestry, Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University with the support from DELL Technologies, Hyderabad through the Learning links Foundation (NGO), New Delhi, conducted a plantation drive at Botanical garden on 20-02-2026. In this programme Ms. Latha from DELL Technologies, Mr. Ayub from learning links foundation, Hyderabad branch, 70 employee volunteers of DELL Technologies and 4 from Learning Links foundation, Dr AV Ramanjaneyulu, Pr. Scientist (Agro.) & Head, A. Rambabu and P. Bikshapathi, AEOs from AICRP on Agroforestry, PJTAU have participated actively in the auspicious event of planting the saplings. Dr AV Ramanjaneyulu explained about importance of tree plantation in terms of carbon sequestration, environmental conservation, air and water purification, ecosystem services etc., He also informed that it is the responsibility of every citizen in the country to plant tree saplings to achieve optimum tree:human ratio of 100:1 against the present ratio of 28:1. As a part of the programme, 150 saplings of Sandalwood along with various hosts species (Swietenia macrophylla, Casuarina equisetifolia, Cocos nucifera, Albizzia procera, Annona squamosa, Tectona grandis, Pterocarpus santalinus), Cocos bucifera and Terminalia bellirica trees have been planted. He further stated that Sandalwood tree is globally valued for its fragrant heartwood and essential oil, which are highly sought after in the perfume, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries, often commanding very high prices. It holds immense cultural and religious significance, particularly in India, and offers extensive medicinal properties in Ayurveda. Terminalia bellirica is a key Ayurvedic herb widely used for its digestive, respiratory, and rejuvenating properties. It is used as a laxative to relieve constipation, treats coughs, asthma, and bronchitis, and supports liver health. It is often used for hair care to promote growth and in eye health. These tree blocks are used for furthering research. The Principal Scientist thanked immensely the team of DELL Technologies and Learning Links foundation for their commitment and great support for the cause of environment.
